Fans and foes alike were giving RHOA Kandi Burruss and her restaurant a hefty piece of side-eye once reports went public about a recent health inspection visit.
After the news went viral, Kandi gave an exclusive interview providing clarity about the controversy.

The Georgia Department of Public Health graded Kandi’s Old Lady Gang restaurant with a C last month.
The Jasmine Brand reports the grade was given because of the following citations:
No soap or paper towels located at handwashing sink
Observed soil buildup inside ice bin
The health inspector also observed “potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit,” and “employees with no hair restraint.”
“Wet wiping cloth not stored in sanitizing solution between uses” and a “cutting board grooved/pitted and no longer cleanable,” the report continued.
Along with the bad grade, food critics and Yelp users have shared mixed feelings about the food. Many noted it’s nothing to write home about.
Tasting Intown writer Megan Volpert revealed, “The macaroni and cheese with a hard top on it is passable, but also sort of standard and lazy compared to the rest of the plate. It was good, but not especially creamy or extra cheesy, or anything else worth dreaming about when it comes to mac ’n’ cheese.”
Despite not loving the Old Lady Gang macaroni, Megan did note the shrimp and grits were delicious.
“The shrimp and grits came with five tail-on shrimp of a decent size, and they were made wonderfully sweet by the vodka cream sauce. The grits themselves were thick and dusted with a fine layer of Tony Chachere’s or similar seasoning.”
Lashond H. told Yelp she had a different experience.
“I almost chose the fried chicken and then decided to get Aunt Bertha’s catfish strips instead with a side of macaroni,” she wrote.
“The catfish is considered an appetizer but it’s enough for 1 person as an entree. That was some GOOD catfish. It was hand breaded, not frozen and fried. I can tell they made that fresh. The remoulade sauce that comes with it was spicy and delicious. The macaroni was BOMB!!”
Kandi told B.Scott, “Our score is an A. Yes, it was a C for like three days, but for minor things like, someone in the kitchen didn’t have their hair net on — or we ran out of paper towels by the sink. We immediately corrected those things and our score returned to an A,” she said.
“My thing is this — I can’t believe the one thing people choose to overlook is the fact that our score is an A.”
Kandi concluded, stating, “We love our customers. We do whatever we can to make sure they have an amazing experience. When it comes to cleanliness, we’re more than on top of things. The only complaint I’ve ever received from customers about OLG is the fact there’s a long a— wait!”
Old Lady Gang was launched in 2016 after Kandi and her husband Todd Tucker conceptualized the idea to honor the Southern cooking of Kandi’s mother and aunts.
Since opening for business, the Old Lady Gang is known to stay packed despite what naysayers (or Phaedra) might say about Kandi.
Meals at the Old Lady Gang range between $7.95-18.00.
