The May 2015 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” While Floyd took the win, it was widely considered a big disappointment by fans.
Floyd cruised to a decision win, and though there was talk of a rematch after, it never materialized. After the fight, Pacquiao revealed that he fought with an injured right shoulder.
Instead of a rematch, Mayweather (now 41) went on to fight Andre Breto and then Conor McGregor nearly a year ago.
Now, Pacquiao wants another shot.
Following a KO victory of Lucas Matthysse over the weekend, the Filipino boxing star challenged Mayweather to return to boxing (though he maintains that he’s retirement) for one last fight.
Mayweather, however, has been teasing a potiental transition to MMA for another big payday.
“Mayweather? If he decides to go back to boxing then that is the time we are going to call the shots,” Pacquiao told reporters, according to ESPN 5. “I have the belt, so it’s up to him. If he wants to come back in boxing, let’s do a second one.”
If a fight with Mayweather doesn’t work out, Pacquiao will likely next face Amir Khan or Vasyl Lomachenko.
“Yes that’s a potential opponent; Amir Khan,” Pacquiao said. “There’s a lot of potential opponents there, like Lomachenko, there are so many fighters that have potential to be my opponent next.”
